REGISTER NOW! Women's Fitness Session - Sept and Oct

Here comes a new EIGHT WEEK session of Women's Fitness! During the summer break, I've been learning/studying more about running, and how to run effortlessly and injury-free. I am excited to pass my knowledge onto you. Considering I'm due with Baby Two at the end of November, this session will probably be the last one for several months. So during September and October, our training will be scheduled and concentrated. Tuesday and Thursday we'll have a specific training run and Friday will be a half hour of conditioning with 10-15 minutes of necessary stretching. Click HERE for the registration form. You can scan/email it back to me or bring it the first day of class on September 6. LAVA YOUR LIFE!

NEW SESSION! September and October

We all had our summer break - now it's time to get back into a healthy routine. On Tuesday, September 6 we'll begin another 8-week session of women's fitness (running and conditioning). Tuesday and Thursday are running days, Friday is conditioning and flexibility.  We'll have a structured running schedule and use a periodized training program for conditioning to maximize fitness and performance. I'm very excited to see everyone again and hopefully meet some new faces as well!

Lava Fit's "Summer Break"...

Image
Lava Fit is taking a summer break during July and August - starting back with running and conditioning in September. Also available in September - Private Sessions! The workout will be designed around your fitness level and goals. For those Lava Fit gals still on island this summer, I encourage you to continue your fitness routine throughout July and August by meeting for regular Tuesday and Thursday runs... and I'll continue checking in on you ;) Also, several of our regulars are moving off island this summer. Let's keep building our fitness group by 'recruiting' friends over the summer - because working out alone is no fun! More information about classes and start date coming soon. During your summer workouts, here's something to keep in mind: HOT - WEATHER EXERCISE from IDEA Health & Fitness Association You love to exercise outside in the fresh air, but certain times during the year are hot and sticky (especially on the mainland!). Knowing how to ...

Another reason to stay fit: Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is something not many of us think about until it's too late. Even though many of the risk factors are not under our individual control, most risk factors are. Why worry about osteoporosis? Let's get some facts out there about it: - Eighty percent of those affected by osteoporosis are women - Osteoporosis is responsible for 1.5 million hip, wrist, vertebral, and other site fractures annually - While osteoporosis is often thought of as an older person's disease, it can strike at any age. Osteoporosis is usually characterized by the dowager's hump but obviously it affects much more than just your back and posture. Bone mass in women reaches its peak sometime in the early 30s and remains relatively constant until menopause. Then, as estrogen levels drop, the bones begin to lose mass. Risk Factors Under Our Control: - Low level of physical activity - Low level of calcium intake - Lifestyle habits: smoking, caffeine, and alcohol use - Inadequate fluorid...

Get up and Get going!

A morning workout triggers feel-good endorphins and lowers elevated stress hormones. The effects can last six to eight hours, says Gregory Florez, a spokesperson for the American Council on Exercise, in Salt Lake City: "Morning exercisers tend not to have midmorning slumps and are sharper mentally than if they hadn't exercised." You'll get the most bang for your energy buck, he says, with a workout that includes both cardio and strength training. (From Real Simple Magazine) With that said, tomorrow at CCF (Cardio+Conditioning+Flexibility) we'll be doing a circuit workout including weights, resistance bands and calisthenics. Following Conditioning will be 30 minutes of Pilates with Harmony Pilates. Come at 8am to get in a short jog/run before Conditioning at 8:30am. See you then ~ Lava Your Life!

Holo Hui in Session!

Today we had the first run of the session - luckily it stopped thundering and raining for a great run! Tomorrow we'll meet in Kailua Beach Park (across from Buzz's) for CCF (Cardio+Conditioning+Flexibility). Bring a resistance tube if you have one! The flexibility portion will be Pilates by Jessica Stare of Harmony Pilates. Next Wednesday it'll be Yoga by Heather Martz of Green Girl Yoga. A wonderful balance for your body. The class will be done by donation tomorrow - all donations going to Japan - courtesy of Harmony Pilates and their Week of Giving. This is our last session before the 'Summer Break' - since many will be out of town this summer, including myself, we'll take a break during July and part of August. I am more than happy to create a training schedule for you during that time to keep you on track and motivated. In the meantime, come do something for yourself on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings!
